Build a creative economy

Margaret Collins and Robert Bush spoke about “Creative Communities that Work: Transforming Local and Regional Economies” in Hickory, North Carolina.

These individuals are working to promote economic activity in their regions through the arts.  They believe creative industries should include more than the performing arts: architecture, gaming simulation, graphic design, photography and publishing, among others.

Employment in the creative industry composes 5.5 percent of the state’s workforce, with job growth increasing at 11 percent per year.

Even so, it is important to support the arts in the local community.
